Windows and the Windows Explorer have had search capabilities for a long time and they have gradually improved over the years. The one thing that was always lacking was an ability to search different contexts (or remote sources). There were some improvements with the Windows Desktop search, but I think the federated search capability in Windows 7 really gets it right.
Federated search in Windows 7 introduces support to search different remote data stores using OpenSearch technologies and allows you to search those sources from within Windows Explorer. Below is an example of searching a SharePoint 2007 from within Windows Explorer.
The more interesting aspect of federated search is that, because it uses OpenSearch, there are already a lot of search sites that support search federation. Even better, Microsoft supports creating new federated search providers through the use of federated search connectors, which are simple XML files that describe the search provider.
You can download a document that describes how to build a basic web service that leverages the Windows 7 federated search and the search connector file format from Microsoft.

In XP some tools were on the left side, some on the top which gives less area to draw and the user was not comfortable in that, but in windows 7 each and everything is neatly positioned so that every tool which the user wants to use is under his eyes. Every tool in the newer version of the paint is on the top of the drawing area. Every tool is under some kind of tabs like, Home, View. Nothing is merged, every accessory is well placed in the paint.

4) Changing Sizes

This is one of those new MS Paint features provided by Microsoft in Paint which means that whatever shape the user had drawn he can change its size to smaller or bigger after drawing the shape; this was not available in XP.
If the user wants to enter text in the textbox and there is not enough space to insert the text then in XP it will give an error message, but in Windows 7 it can be easily done without any problem.

5)    Full screen View

There is a new feature in windows 7 which was not present in the XP; it gives the user a full screen view so that he can see where actually he is drawing. It is a very innovative idea and at the same time simple to use.

It is simple to disable or enable Aero shake in Windows 7.
Just  follow these  seven steps :
Step 1 : Go to the start menu and enter the word ( gpedit.msc) in search box and press enter.

After pressing enter the Local Group Policy Editor dialog box will be opened .

 Step 2 : Now, select User Configuration  from Local Computer Policy by double clicking on it.
Again we have three options :

• Software settings,
• Window settings and
• Administrative Templates

Step 3 : Double click on Administrative Templates and again we have some options on the screen.
Step 4 : Select Desktop from these options by double clicking on it . After clicking again we have so many options.

Step 5 : Now select “ Turn off Aero Shake window minimizing mouse gesture” by double clicking on it. A dialog box will be opened containing options to enable or disable Aero shake in Windows 7.

Step 6 : Select Enabled option and click on Apply and press ok button . Now Aero Shake in Windows 7 option will be disabled on the system.


NOTE : Selecting Enabled options means to disable the Aero shake and if we select  Disabled or Configured then Aero shake will be enabled on the system and it works.

Enable Concurrent Desktop Sessions in Windows

Professional and Ultimate editions of Windows come with a built in Remote Desktop (RDP) feature that allows you to access your machine remotely while away from home or the office. Unfortunately, it is limited by default to one concurrent user per session, meaning that if someone remotely connects to the computer, whoever was logged in at the moment will be automatically logged off, even if the user is physically at the computer.
This is not a technical limitation but rather a licensing one. Case in point, Remote Desktop in server editions of Windows by default supports two concurrent connections to remotely troubleshoot or administer a computer. More users can connect simultaneously, too, as long as the machine can handle it with the resources it has available and you have the required client access licenses for that particular server.
However, there are a few reasons why concurrent sessions would come in handy for power users not necessarily running a server. For example, if you have a dedicated Media Center PC running in the living room, you'll be able to remotely access all files on the machine without interrupting the person watching TV.
Or if you are sharing a computer with other users, concurrent Remote Desktop sessions will allow more than one person use that system under a different or even the same user account, without kicking each other off. By patching a file called termsrv.dll, located in %SystemRoot%\System32\, this is possible in all editions of Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

Fortunately for us, Internet user DeepXW already did all the dirty work a while ago and posted his Universal Termsrv.dll Patch for anyone to get their hands on. Simply download and unzip the file, then run the corresponding file as administrator (right-click the exe file and select Run as Administrator). For 32-bit systems use UniversalTermsrvPatch-x86.exe and for 64-bit versions of Windows use UniversalTermsrvPatch-x64.exe.
You should see a window like the one above where you can patch termsrv.dll to remove the Concurrent Remote Desktop sessions limit and restore the original file at any time (a backup file is located at '\windows\system32\termsrv.dll.backup'). After applying the patch, restart your system and you are ready to go.
To test it out simply leave a session open on to the PC where you applied the patch, then from another machine try and connect to the computer remotely. If all goes well both users will be logged on and active.

How to Bypass Metro and Boot Directly to the Desktop Interface

I've been running the Windows 8 Consumer Preview for a few months and although I'm okay with Metro replacing the Start Menu, I hate seeing the new interface by default every time I reboot. When Windows 7 starts, you hit a login screen (assuming it's enabled) and then you're brought straight to the desktop.
When Windows 8 starts, it displays a lock screen that you have to move out of the way before entering your credentials, and then you have to dismiss the Metro interface before accessing the desktop. Like I said, I'm cool with Metro, but I have no desire to see a full-screen Start Menu when I log into my PC.
Hopefully the retail version of Windows 8 will make it a little easier to force Metro into the background, but it's entirely possible to do this on the prerelease builds if you have five minutes to spare. Likewise, it's easy to disable the lock screen and have Windows automatically log you in for hassle-free reboots.

Boot to the Windows 8 desktop instead of Metro

As noted, there doesn't appear to be any baked-in solution to disabling Metro when booting Windows 8 -- or at least, we haven't found it. However, you can configure a simple script to run every time you log in. You can save yourself a few steps by downloading the batch we've created for you, or simply copy the text below into Notepad and save it as a .bat file (any name will do -- only the extension matters):

Once you have the script, store it somewhere you don't mind it being forever. With the script stored, you need to create a new task to run it at log in. You can do this directly through the Windows Task Scheduler or by attaching it to the Windows Logon event in the Event Viewer. We'll walk you through the second one, for no particular reason:

• Search for Windows' Event Viewer in Metro's settings (it appears as "View event logs").
• Click Windows Logs > Application in the left column to get a list of events in the center.
• Scroll through the list until you see an information event with the source "Winlogon."
• Right click the Winlogon entry and choose "attach task to this event" to schedule a task.
• Name your task anything you want and click next three times to choose your script.

After the script is configured to run, you won't have to manually dismiss the Metro interface anymore. It's worth noting that you will still see Metro briefly as the script takes a second or two to kick in, but at least it'll show itself to the door. If anyone finds a quicker-acting solution, feel free to share it.

Disabling the Windows 8 lock screen to log in faster

This one's less involved. Fire up the Group Policy Editor (search for gpedit.msc via Metro) and head to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Personalization. Once you're there, double click "Do not display the lock screen" and enable the policy. The lock screen should be disabled.

Automatically log in to your Windows 8 account

Naturally, you don't want to do this on a notebook or any other machine outside of a secure area -- including your home if you have mischievous siblings or roommates -- but it'll make the log in process that much quicker. Search for netplwiz via Metro and uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." Provide your credentials and your account will load automatically.

At Best Buy, for example, a 6-foot Cat5 network cables costs $19.00; a 25-foot cable is priced at around $33.00 and for a 50 foot cable, the price is $43.00. These prices are just for one cable. Researching several online distributors, you can buy a spool of 1,000 feet of Cat5e from $65-$120.00 and the "heads;" the modular plugs used to terminate an Ethernet cable, can be easily found in 50-count bags for under $10.00. The crimping tool you also need is a one-time start-up cost of anywhere from $10-$50.00 depending on the quality and additional features that the crimping tool may have.

Sure, it'll take a little extra time to make your own Ethernet cables, but you'll save money, you'll have cables that are the exact right length, and you might just have some geeky fun, too.
